At 3:19 am, Cpl. Lorri McEachern of the Miramichi Police Department reported that a police officer spotted a couch attached to the back of an ATV. When the officer turned on its lights, the ATV driver sped off with the couch attached, leaving the two passengers on the sofa stranded behind.
The ATV managed to escape by racing through the car park, onto the highway and driving over the frozen Miramichi River, all with the couch still attached.
The police officers stated that the two stranded men were wearing helmets but were intoxicated.
The police managed to locate the ATV but officers were not able to locate the driver.
The charges for the men on top of the furniture is yet to be determined.
