On Sunday, 11th September, surveillance camera footage captured the moment a vaporizer pen exploded inside a woman's bag whilst shopping at Sunglasses Hut in Freehold Raceway Mall located in Old Bridge, New Jersey.
Mara McInerney, the owner of the e-cigarette was getting ready to make a purchase at the sunglasses outlet. She placed her $1,900 Louis Vuitton Neverfull MM tote handbag on the counter, which contained the faulty vaporizer.

Whilst waiting for the cashier to finish her purchase, her bag explodes with a giant smoke ball discharging out of her bag. The loud bang sends customers and workers fleeing from the vicinity.
McInerney told NBC New York, about her harrowing ordeal and how she assumed the worst, expressing her terror she said,“Terrifying, scary. It sounded like a gunshot. It sounded like a bomb went off, It was 9/11. I thought someone had put something in my bag.”
Mara emptied her bag after the explosion and discovered it was her vape pen which had exploded. The lithium powered battery pack a lot of energy in a small area a tiny split of its shell can cause it to explode.
No one was injured after the explosion, no one has been charged for the defective vaporizer.
