Police reports by Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office reveal that in the early hours of Thursday morning, 4th August a car was pulled over due to it not being able to stay in one lane. The vehicle was driven being driven by an intoxicated 13-year-old with two passengers in the vehicle one of whom a heavily inebriated grandma, Sanjuana Mercado-Mendez, 52, who was seated in the back passenger seat.
The incident occurred on Airport road in Santa Fe, New Mexico as a police vehicle pulled over the drunk 13-year-old, driving a blue 1994 Oldsmobile sedan, after they spotted erratic driving from the teenager.
The underage thirteen-year-old was discovered to be almost twice the legal driving limit.The police discovered that the car had two passengers one of which was a sober 15-year-old and another was a highly intoxicated grandmother who was unable to respond to verbal commands given by the police officers.
The 13-year-old and his grandmother were arrested, the 13-year old was charged with a DUI and driving without a license. Sanjuana Mercado-Mendez was charged with the suspicion of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, child abuse and possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle
