On Saturday, 26th November, an 11-year-old boy was caught joyriding on Highway 400, located in Ontario, Canada, after he played the computer game, Grand theft auto and wanted to know what driving felt like.

The 11-year-old was caught driving northbound from Major Mackenzie Drive to King Road. After 11pm, the police received numerous phone calls of an erratic driver on the highway.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the Highway Safety Division stated on his periscope blog, “Drivers called it in thinking it was an impaired driver because the vehicle was all over the highway,”.

The police spotted the 11-year-olds vehicle and began to pursue the slow moving car. After the child noticed the police behind him he sped up the vehicle, Sgt Schmidt said, he was traveling “Well over the speed limit, 120 or more km per hour,”

Soon after, the police managed to box the car in and bring it to a rolling stop. They were in shock when they discovered the driver to be an 11-year-old boy.

Sgt Schmidt said, “Shockingly it was an 11-year-old kid who had just finished playing Grand Theft Auto at home and wanted to find out what it was like to drive a car,”.

The child was taken back home by police and the car was taken back on a tow, no charges were given to the 11-year-old.

Sgt. Schmidt said, “We’re leaving it up to the parents to determine what an appropriate punishment would be.”
