13-year-old Dies Playing Tug-of-war At School

An Alabama student dies while playing tug of war during her schools 'Field day'

Maddison Wentworth, 13 collapsed during a game of 'tug of war' and later pronounced dead in  hospital.  The incident occurred at Williams Intermediate School in Pell City, Alabama on Thursday 19th May during a Field Day.

The field day which the school hosted was filled with outdoor activities including sack races, water balloon fights and the aforementioned tug of war. 

Madison participated in the tug of war but prior to the start of the game, she told one of her classmate she was feeling dizzy and light headed. When the game started Maddison fell unconscious, school nurses rushed to the scene to perform CPR. She was then taken to St. Vincent's St. Clair Hospital in Pell City, where doctors pronounced her dead.

It has been unreported if Maddison suffered from any preexisting medical condition.

A memorial fund has been started on GoFundMe with the aim to reach $20k(£14k) to aid Maddison's family with any financial difficulty they may undergo during the time of their daughter's death. The GoFundMe Has reached over $16,000 donated by 355 people in two days of starting the memorial fund.
