Adam Green who recorded the footage and uploaded it to Facebook, claims that the smell was so strong that the entire area was reeking of the illicit drug. He stated the smoke was coming out of the police station's chimney and the wind blew the smoke directly towards the New World Supermarket where shoppers were allegedly feeling the effects of the illegal drug.

Most people were pretty light-hearted with the situation, M?ui Taewa left a comment on Facebook "Shux my parents live over the fence. Might tell Dad to go check on the weather outside lol". Ashley Rowe wrote "Tomorrow newspaper top story, New world sell record amount of chips". Not everyone was pleased with the cloud of smoke as Adam claimed to see a lady coming out of the local police station complaining "I see youse all there, bugger off!", and the police replying "hell no youse are getting us high for free!"
